UPDATES
There has been a strong wish to revive the Conservation/Preservation Working Group. We are most grateful to the organisations that have contributed to the revival of this initiative by giving valuable lectures on the preservation and restoration of pre-modern Japanese materials at recent EAJRS conferences, including the following:
Prof Tsuda Mayumi (Keio University) has organized an online symposium in conjunction with the next conference of the Japanese Early Modern Literature Asssociation. The theme might be of interest to some of you: デジタル時代の和本リテラシー古典文学研究と教育の未来.

The idea of creating a European network for conservation/preservation of Japanese antiquarian materials came from a proposal made by Mr Akio Yasue, the keynote speaker of the special session: Protection, Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Properties of the 25th EAJRS conference held in Leuven on September 17, 2014. A small group of the EAJRS Board members have initiated the formation of an EAJRS conservation Working Group, with the following organization, objectives, and activities.
